After notching a victory over the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr thanked himself.

The Warriors handed the Hawks a 128-111 beating. After the game, Kerr joked that right after the win, he commended himself for doing a superb job. Per Anthony Slater of The Athletic:

“Oh my God, I did such a good job tonight. I just went in and looked at the mirror and winked.”

Of course, Kerr is fond of such sarcastic quips. Be it in a championship parade or just a ritual sideline interview, Kerr has become infamous for his witty answers. For those who have been following the Warriors, this is just part of his humor. It is by no means an act of braggadocio or whatnot.

This sort of attitude goes way back in his playing days. When he made the series-winning shot of the 1997 NBA Finals, Kerr, during the championship parade, had his own version of the story with an added twist of sarcasm. As transcribed by The Undefeated, below is his version of the story:

“There’ve been some misconceptions about what actually happened. I wanted to clear it up,” Kerr, who’s now the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, joked 20 years ago. “When we called timeout with 25 seconds to go, we went into the huddle and Phil told Michael, he said, ‘Michael, I want you to take the last shot.’ And Michael said, ‘You know, Phil, I don’t feel real comfortable in these situations, so maybe we ought to go in another direction.’

“Then Scottie came in and said, ‘You know, Phil, Michael said in his commercial that he’s been asked to do this 26 times, and he’s failed. So, why don’t we go to Steve?’

Never change, Steve Kerr.
