For Kendrick Perkins, former teammate Kevin Durant's injury won't affect his free agency decision. He believes the former league MVP will leave the Golden State Warriors.

Per Michael Scotto of The Athletic, Kendrick Perkins reflected a bit on Durant's leg injury in the playoffs. To recall, he suffered a calf strain in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. In Game 5 of the NBA Finals, he ruptured his Achilles. As Perkins sees it, Kevin Durant will likely head somewhere else simply because he wants his own team, not because of the controversy surrounding his injury.

“I think it makes it less likely that he stays with Golden State, in my opinion,” Perkins said. “I don’t think the injury had anything to do with it, to be honest. I think it was more so KD wants his own team. I think his time was up; in my opinion, before the injury. We all know regardless of who’s labeled the best in the league, which was probably you could say Kevin Durant is right now before the injury. It still was going to be Steph Curry’s team. I think KD was probably ready to move on, in my opinion, even before the injury. I think the injury didn’t help the situation at all, either.”

For Perkins, who was Durant's teammate for five years on the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Brooklyn Nets have a good chance at luring the two-time Finals MVP. Apart from rumors that he and Kyrie Irving will team up, Perkins pointed out that the Nets' relative success last season has made them an attractive team for top free agents.
