With his eighth point against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night, Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant passed Gary Payton on the NBA's all-time scoring list, moving into 37th place.

Durant entered the game with 21,806 career points while Payton had 21,813. Next up on the list is former Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets star Clyde Drexler at 22,195.

Durant's rise up the all-time scoring list is impressive, given his age. The 6'10” forward is still only 30 years old and won't turn 31 until just before the start of the 2018-19 season. Durant was originally drafted No. 2 overall by the Seattle SuperSonics back in 2007, which coincidentally is the same franchise where Payton played the majority of his career. After one season in Seattle, Durant and the team moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder.

After nine seasons in OKC and one appearance in the NBA Finals, Kevin Durant left to team up with Stephen Curry and the Warriors. He's in his third season with his new team and has won two NBA championships, including two NBA Finals MVP awards. Durant has led the NBA in scoring average four times in his career, and coming into play on Wednesday night he's averaging 28.8 points per game.

Assuming he stays at his current pace and plays the rest of the season, it's possible that Durant could move all the way up to No. 33 on the all-time scoring list this year. Again assuming he maintains good health and continued elite performance, he could be as high as No. 21 by the end of next season and pushing toward the top-10 before he turns 33 years old.
