Klay Thompson is in the final year of his current deal with the Golden State Warriors and his impending free agency is already a major topic of conversation. He appeared on SiriusXM NBA Radio and was asked about his prospects for next summer.
Thompson is always honest about his love for Golden State, but it sounds like he's willing to leave his options open and re-evaluate his free agency next summer.
Klay is being very careful in his statements about his pending free agency. He's handling it the right way. He talks about how much he loves and values Golden State, but he's not outright declaring that he's coming back. A lot can change between now and next summer.
Reporters will continue to ask Klay these questions, but he is handling the attention and the potential drama well.
Article Continues BelowJust like you, @Warriors guard @KlayThompson is aware he's set to be a free agent next summer. But maybe unlike you, Klay told @GregAnthony50 and @TheFrankIsola sees himself playing with the Warriors for as long as he can.#DubNation pic.twitter.com/4TietahraO

“Yeah, well it's a great position to be in. To be wanted is definitely awesome. It means you've been — you're respected and you put in work, and NBA free agency has taken on a whole life of its own now. It's crazy. You hear about it sometimes more than you do, even the regular season. That's just the eagerness of fans trying to get — they're trying to see the fantasy team. It is a goal of mine to be with the Dubs for a long, long time. Like I said before, it's just special to do it in one place. To be known like the Derek Jeters, the Brett Favres, Kob, list goes on — Tim Duncan. It'd be a goal of mine. A lot can happen though, but, it would definitely be awesome to be a Warrior for as long as I could possibly be.”
Klay mentions guys like Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant for their commitment to one team. He says that staying with the Warriors for his entire career is a goal of his, but it also sounds like he's willing to wait and see what the NBA landscape is like next summer.
