San Francisco, CA – The Golden State Warriors finally dropped their first game in the 2021-22 NBA season. Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies delivered the defeat despite a 36 point performance from Stephen Curry.

There's many questions about how they ended up losing this game. Was it because Curry subbed in too late in the fourth quarter or because he didn't score in the fourth or overtime? In the postgame interview, Curry spoke about both scenarios.

“Thats not why we lost…Obviously, I want to be out there, but we understand the big picture. We still had opportunities to close it out, and we just didn't,” the Warriors star told ClutchPoints.

According to statmuse.com, Stephen Curry is 0-for-11 from the field in the last three games during the fourth quarter. A trend like this isn't a good sign when games are close. Your best player has to be able to score the basketball late in the game. Role players can only do so much, and that's why the team's star gets paid the big bucks. It's his job to close the game and bring home the win.

“I'm a little critical of myself on those last three shots. But with the way teams guard, I got to be able to be a threat,” Stephen Curry continued. “I don't know how many failed attempts I got over the last three games, but it didn't seem like a lot. A lot of that's just how teams are defending me, and we can get a lot of good shots. And we were turning those into wins, and tonight it didn't. So obviously, that's going to be something I look at in terms of how I can help down the stretch. But I'm not worried about that.”

It was an ugly start to an eight-game homestand, and the Warriors will face the Oklahoma City Thunder next. It was only their first loss of the season, but they feel the mistakes are correctable. So Saturday should be an excellent opportunity to get things back on track with a win.
