Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry says the three years the Dubs had with Kevin Durant were really special and he has no ill will toward KD after the two-time Finals MVP signed with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency.

Curry says Durant had the right to make his own decision in free agency. The Warriors went to three straight NBA Finals with Durant, winning two and losing one.

Durant only played 11 minutes in Game 5 of the 2019 Finals against the Toronto Raptors before tearing his right Achilles tendon.

“I mean, the three years that we had were special,” Curry said, via the Mercury News. “With KD, we had three straight Finals appearances. We won two of them, and we accomplished a lot as a group. Everybody talks about the amount of talent that we had on our team, but that doesn’t guarantee that you can figure out on the court that you can put all the pieces together to be successful. I’m really proud of what we accomplished.

“The beauty of free agency is everybody has a decision, everybody has a choice. You want to find your happiness wherever that is. The beauty of the NBA is everybody has that decision at some point, especially guys that deserve it, like K and other top free agents. I like to look at what we accomplished and focus on that and be extremely proud of this run that we had. Now we are going to have to recreate it in terms of what it means going forward.”

Kevin Durant signed a four-year, $164.26 million contract with the Nets. The Warriors were able to get All-Star guard D'Angelo Russell from Brooklyn via a sign-and-trade deal.

Stephen Curry will return to being the first option in Golden State next season.

Since Klay Thompson is going to be out for the majority of the season recovering from his ACL tear, Curry is going to have to put up monster numbers for the Dubs to compete in the Western Conference, something the two-time league MVP is more than capable of doing.
