Analytics have truly taken over the NBA over the last few years. But like all things, it's not always perfect and does not even cover the whole story. Such is the case with data analytics site FiveThirtyEight, which predicted that Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will only be a “borderline All-Star” in the 2020-21 campaign.

The starters for the 2021 All-Star Game were revealed on Thursday, and boy, FiveThirtyEight's prediction couldn't have been more wrong. Not only did the two-time NBA MVP make the first five, but Stephen Curry also garnered the most votes among Western Conference guards by a wide margin.

To be fair, Stephen Curry is coming off a broken left hand that limited him to just five games last season. He also turned 32 and no longer has the luxury of having a star-studded team, so the analytics site's forecast sounded about right at the time.

The three-time NBA champion, however, reminded everyone that he truly is a generational talent with his bounce-back season for the Dubs. In 29 games so far, Chef Stephen Curry is producing 30.0 points on a blistering 49.2 percent shooting clip from the field and 42.5 from downtown, along with 5.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.2 steals. He also dropped a casual 42-point outing in their come-from-behind win against the Miami Heat in their last outing.

For sure, Stephen Curry would even be in the MVP discussion if only the Warriors were winning more.

Sure, analytics has become all the rage in professional sports and is the driving force behind the NBA's modern playstyle today. But as Stephen Curry just proved, the numbers do lie sometimes.

Stephen Curry and the Warriors finally climbed to three games over .500 with a win over the Heat earlier this week. Given how crowded the Western Conference is from the No. 4 through No. 8 playoff spots, the Warriors have a better chance of making the playoffs than their pedestrian record would indicate. Curry will need help from his teammates, however, to bring home a postseason berth.
