The Golden State Warriors officially sidelined second-year center James Wiseman for the remainder of the season. The 7-footer from the University of Memphis played in three G-League games before a swelling in his surgically repaired knee ended his season before it even began. Steve Kerr discussed the disheartening news during his pregame press conference ahead of Friday evening's game.

“We're just protecting James' future, and it makes the most sense to go this route, and again I just feel terrible for James,” Kerr told ClutchPoints.

James Wiseman suffered a meniscus tear during his rookie season, and he has been recovering from a repair he had in April 2021. Kerr and company expected the center to be playing at the beginning of this season, but things took a little longer than expected.

On March 10, Wiseman played in his first G-League game. He scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds. It appeared he was nearing his season debut with Golden State. Then the swelling happened two games later. Although this is a major setback, no further damage was done to his knee.

“The knee looks sound,” Kerr explained. “It's just a decision that we feel makes the most sense for his own best interests and our best interest as well.”

Now the Warriors are left without a single 7-foot player, with Kevon Looney being their only true center. The Dubs have done exceptionally well without Wiseman this season, but they have struggled at times against larger teams.

For now, the Warriors will have to step up while Steve Kerr looks for ways to fill their glaring hole on the frontcourt.
