Normally, injury worries are limited to the players, not the coaching staff. But in Steve Kerr's case, he's dealt with injury problems during his tenure as head coach of the Golden State Warriors. He's missed regular season games as well as big playoff games due to his back problems.

But the good news is that Kerr says his back is feeling better and he even admits to playing golf during the offseason. Kerr spoke with Tim Kawakami on the TK podcast. He said:

“I even played a little golf this summer. It had been a couple years since I got out and swung a golf club. And I played a few rounds late in the summer down in San Diego.”

It may not seem like a lot, but this is awesome to hear for Kerr. During the 2015-16 season, Kerr missed 43 regular season games due to his injury. Now-Lakers head coach, Luke Walton took over in place of Kerr and the Warriors amassed a sparkling record of 39-4. The wins were credited to Kerr despite the fact that he took an indefinite leave of absence.

The following year, Kerr missed time in the playoffs due to reoccurring back problems. This didn't slow down the Warriors in the slightest as the Warriors cruised to a championship with a record of 16-1.

Kerr told Kawakami:

“The worst is behind me … when I had to sit out in the playoffs, that was a brutally difficult time and I wasn't sure what was gonna happen. I think all of that is behind me and I'm looking at much better days.”

Hopefully, Kerr's back holds up because he's one of the best coaches in the league and even though the Warriors have had significant success when he's dealing with injury, they are a better team when he's on the bench.
