Klay Thompson continues to be the joyful enigma of the NBA. His impending return after a two-year layoff is very much anticipated. But for now, the Golden State Warriors star remains a treasure trove of hilarious tales.
Since entering the NBA as the 11th overall pick in 2011, he has helped transform the Warriors into perennial contenders. The fact that the team failed to qualify in the NBA Playoffs in the two seasons he sat out due to injuries speaks volumes of his importance.
But right from the get-go, Thompson already showed he's a different breed. According to former Warriors assistant coach Jerry DeGregorio, the sweet-shooting guard abruptly left his first contract negotiation because of a very interesting reason (via NBC Sports Bay Area).
“Klay’s first contract, they were negotiating, and in the middle, he had to leave. He was like, ‘Guys, I have to go home now, I got to go home and feed my dog.'”

By now, it's widely known around the NBA that Thompson's real Splash Brother is not Stephen Curry but his dog, Rocco. They're pretty much inseparable. Not even a critical contract negotiation could come between them. It's worth noting that Thompson was still a wide-eyed rookie at that time, and yet he shunned his bosses in favor of his beloved dog.
But clearly, despite the unorthodox move, Klay Thompson was still able to land a deal with the Warriors and has remained one of the team's key cogs.
Maybe the Warriors loved his—wait for it—dogged approach.
