While four teams are busy competing for the title, other teams who did not make it to the playoffs are busy in their own right, making moves in preparation for the upcoming NBA Draft. According to the rumor mill, the Memphis Grizzlies, who have the 4th pick, want to move up to the top two.

As reported by Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the Grizzlies were disappointed with how the lottery went. According to one general manager:

“If you have someone you like in the first few picks, they’re the first call you’d make,” one general manager told Sporting News. “They obviously were the most disappointed with the way the lottery went and the options they have now. It seems like they want to try to turn that pick into something else.

“Everyone’s going to talk before the draft, of course. But Memphis, I think they’re the ones who are going to be more ready to do something than others.”

Landing in the top two would give the Grizzlies a chance to select top prospects Luka Dončić or Deandre Ayton — big men which they can highly utilize in their line roster.

The first and second pick belongs to the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings. Memphis would need to do some magical work for the aforementioned teams to let go of their picks.
