Indiana Pacers fans have become infamous for chanting not-so-niceties at opposing players when they head to the free-throw line, and they were at it again on Thursday. Fans chanted “Honey Nut Cheerios” at Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony during a trip to the charity stripe in an epic callback to a run-in Anthony once had with NBA legend Kevin Garnett:

The creativity of Pacers fans is–frankly–almost alarming.

In this case, they are referring to a 2013 regular season game between the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, in which Anthony (then a member of the Knicks) claimed Garnett said his wife La La tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios, resulting in a scuffle between the two (via Alec Nathan of Bleacher Report):

After the two engaged in a heated altercation on the floor at Madison Square Garden, Anthony tried to confront Garnett back by the Celtics locker room and team bus. Anthony was suspended one game for his actions.

“There's certain things that you just don't say to men, another man,” Anthony said at the time. “I felt like we crossed a line. But like I said, we both had an understanding right now, we handled it the way we handled it. Nobody needs to know what was said behind closed doors, so that situation was handled.”

However, La La Anthony herself has denied Garnett made the comments, and former Celtics forward Paul Pierce also said as much during an interview with The Breakfast Club in 2018.

Still, Pacers fans must be applauded for their savagery, with it directed towards the Blazers star this time around.
