Given all the controversial and even absurd comments LaVar Ball has made over the past few months, it’s very understandable why there are a lot of people concerned about how the Los Angeles Lakers will handle him. With his son Lonzo playing for the team, it’s not a remote possibility that LaVar Ball could have a negative impact if he doesn’t change his ways.

A former NBA coach was asked if he thinks the Lakers should be prepared for his antics or not. He immediately shared his thoughts, via Mitch Lawrence of Sporting News, and made it known that he believes a message should be sent by either Magic Johnson or Jeanie Buss to Ball as early as possible.

“Actually, that message should come from Magic and (owner) Jeanie Buss,” he said. “The message has to be: ‘We get how much you care about your kid. We really do. But now this is serious business. You can no longer be a Little League dad. You need to just shut up.' Say it nicely, but it has to be said.”

Through the Lakers’ first six games of the season, LaVar Ball has been seen watching some of their games live — to no one's surprise. However, he has not done anything to cause any controversies or issues within the team, and has been just like any father supporting their sons. It may seem like a big surprise, but he is definitely doing his part by not becoming a distraction to them.

It still remains to be seen if this will be the case throughout the season, but if Ball will continue conducting himself as such, it will allow the Lakers to have their complete focus on their games. With the team not off to the start they planned, they certainly need all the help they can get to turn around their fortunes, and live up to the expectations of their fans that they can contend for a playoff spot this year.
