Kanye West is making rounds in the headlines as of late for stating that slavery is a choice. Many celebrities have voiced out their opinions regarding West's comments, many of which disagreed with the hip-hop mogul. Basketball legend Kobe Bryant recently shared his side.
As per TMZ, West said:
“When you hear about slavery for 400 years — for 400 years? That sounds like a choice. You were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.”
Bryant, speaking to a group of 300 high school students, talked briefly about West's statements. He said that while Kanye West is free to say whatever he wants, as he is protected by the tenants of democracy, he doesn't necessarily agree with the hip-hop star's claims:

I think, for him, he’s one of these entertainers that’s always in a constant state of growth, he’s always challenging … himself, doing a lot of questioning internally himself…so I just take it for what it is and completely disagree.”
Bryant ended on a positive note, explaining why the imagination exists:
“It’s easy for us as people to kind of ignore the emotional side of it, especially when it comes to things that deal with negativity, things that deal with insecurity, things that deal with fear,” Kobe said. “It’s very easy to take the fear and just push it down, try to act like it doesn’t exist. The reason why it starts with imagination is because you first must imagine the life that you want to have. You must first imagine what it is you dream of becoming.”
The Los Angeles Lakers fan base will unlikely turn on Jelly Bean Jr. for his thoughts on Kanye West.
