Kobe Bryant's jersey retirement was as over the top as many would expect from anything related to the former Los Angeles Laker star.
The Lakers retired both of Bryant's numbers — No. 8 and No. 24 — on Monday, closing a chapter in the team's history.
There was the ceremony, the Kobe Land outside of the Staples Center, and each attendee of the game received two Bryant jerseys, each featuring one of his numbers.
But that's not all. There was plenty of merchandise on that day and total dollar amount sold was a fitting $824,000, said Sean Ryan, vice president of merchandise of AEG, which owns Staples Center.

The sales number included $616,000 at the Staples Center, $147,000 in sales online, $39,000 at a New Era hat store and $22,000 at the Lakers Store in El Segundo, California.
That number is astonishing giving the fact that both 8 and 24 are included in the amount. It's almost as if it were planned that way.
What's curious is whether or not the amount is exact or a rounding of some sort. It's difficult to believe that the final amount was exact down to the cent.
Perhaps the actual amount was $823,999.23, which rounds up to the reported dollar amount. Someone should look into that.
