The L.A. Clippers have been on a hot streak lately, winning eight of their last 10 games. With Blake Griffin leading the way in the scoring column, it has allowed the team to keep in step with the Utah Jazz in the standings — the Clips could still possibly finish with the fourth seed in the Western Conference.
Griffin is already playing at a high level this season but has raised his game even further in their last three outings. Over that stretch, he has been making shots very efficiently from the field, as pointed out by Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
“He has made a ridiculous 72.9% of his shots. And for good measure, when Griffin has confidently stepped beyond the three-point arc, he has made 61.5%. He also has made 80.8% of his free throws.”
The 28-year-old Oklahoma product gave his thoughts on why he thinks he's been playing even better of late and what has made it possible for him to be this effective.
“Shots are going in. Shots aren’t always going to go in. Like I said, our offense has been really good. I think that’s what has allowed us to be good offensively.
“Getting some easy ones. Some post-ups, mixing it up. Our spacing has been really good. Getting some wide-open shots. That’s the best thing about when everybody is playing well. Our spacing, our rhythm, our timing is all right. So, it’s just open shots. But it’s really a credit to how everybody is running the offense each game.”
Griffin's outstanding play of late couldn't have come at a better time as the Clippers are gearing to make a deep run in the playoffs, which will start in less than two weeks. With some of their core players scheduled to be free agents come summertime, many believe it could be the last hurrah for them playing together and nothing short of a trip to the NBA Finals will be considered a success for the franchise. However, with the five-time All-Star forward playing this way, Griffin has the team looking primed to make a run.
