The L.A. Clippers were reportedly going to lose Chris Paul in free agency after he and Houston Rockets‘ guard James Harden spoke about wanting to play together. With Paul leaving, the Clippers turned nothing into something, acquiring Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Lou Williams, and a 2018 top-three protected first round pick.
L.A. now turns their attention to retaining the services of Blake Griffin, who is also an unrestricted free agent. Griffin has been pursued by the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Miami Heat, but Paul's departure from Los Angeles reportedly “clears the way” for the Clippers to re-sign Griffin, according to Brad Turner of the L.A. Times.

Retaining Griffin would be huge for the Clippers, who would be left trying to pick up the pieces if he were to leave as well. Griffin averaged 21.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. If re-signing and building around Griffin is the way to go, the Clippers will be retooling around him in free agency and possibly via trades.
