Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers knows Los Angeles is always going to be a Lakers town, and he's fine with that.

For the first time ever, both the Clippers and Lakers are title contenders at the same time. The Clippers have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, while the Lakers have LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Doc Rivers, who led the Clips to 48 wins last season without having an All-Star on the roster, is embracing the “second child” status in Los Angeles.

“We are not going to take away the Lakers fans,” Rivers told Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times. “Their fans are not going to wake up one morning and decide to be Clippers fans. That is never going to happen, but that’s OK.

“There’s enough people in L.A. Let’s just keep our fans and attract new fans. … We’re always going to be the second child, but the second child can win titles.”

The Clippers have better depth than the Lakers, which is why many pundits believe they are the better LA team. LAC, though, will ultimately go as far as Leonard and George can guide them.

Leonard averaged 26.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Toronto Raptors last season. He shot 49.6 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from beyond the arc, 85.4 percent from the free-throw line and won his second Finals MVP after leading the Raptors to a six-game series win over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.

George, meanwhile, put up 28.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in 2018-19 on the Oklahoma City Thunder while shooting 43.8 percent overall, 38.6 percent from the 3-point line and 83.9 percent from the charity stripe.
