Patrick Beverly of the L.A. Clippers is known for his great, if not irritating, defense. And for those in the know, this type of defense requires great footwork, high basketball IQ, and a bit of acting.

But recently, referees took notice of his antics and gave him a warning for an apparent flop. And the defensive stalwart did not let this sanction stop him from sending out light jabs to the league.

Via Twitter, Patrick Beverley admitted that he flopped in the said play from their 122-108 victory over the Sacramento Kings. However, the 30-year-old noted that it is something that he had to do since the calls for fouls have been really thin this season.

This reality presents hard-nosed defenders like Beverley a difficult task. Great perimeter defenders like him have a tendency to commit a ton of fouls over the course of the game, simply because they have to be aggressive to accomplish their defensive task.

And Patrick Beverley, who was selected into the NBA All-Defensive First Team (2017) and Second Team (2014), knowing that a whistle will be called more often than not puts him in a complete disadvantage. So can Beverley's flopping antics be finally justified? The NBA doesn't quite think so. But his tweet may have opened the eyes of the fans.
