Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James rocked the basketball world over the weekend after his shocking declaration about his future in the league. The King pretty much issued a come-get-me plea for every single team in the NBA after announcing that he would join any side that decides to draft his son, Bronny James.
Bronny, who is currently a junior in high school, won't be eligible until the 2024 NBA Draft. Right now, however, a number of unnamed league executives have already made predictions on where the young man is expected to land come draft day. According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, Bronny is expected to be selected in the second round:
Article Continues BelowHaving polled several executives, Bronny James probably projects to be a second-round pick at this point, though it's too early to say with any certainty. A team could reach for the son to lure the father.
Apart from being the son of one of the greatest players to have ever held a basketball, Bronny has also established himself as a top prospect in his class. However, the Lakers superstar's first-born son isn't exactly lottery material. He is still considered to be an NBA-caliber talent, but he does not stand out as a franchise-altering type of prospect.
LeBron's recent declaration could change all this, though. By the 2024-25 season, he will be 40 years old already, but what he has proven this season is that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank. It's very much possible that LeBron is still going to be playing at an elite level two or three years from now, and that teams would still be willing to go to extensive lengths to recruit him.
Naturally, this will only increase Bronny's stock. Drafting Bronny James has become some sort of 2-for-1 deal wherein the team that picks him up does not only get a young prospect but perhaps, more importantly, also obtains at least one season with the great LeBron James. Could this serve as enough motivation for teams to scoop up Bronny in the first round? Dare I say even as a lottery pick? Only time will tell.
