Veteran forward Jared Dudley has agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers for ‘a chance to compete for a championship.'

Dudley will sign for the veteran minimum of one-year, $2.5 million. The 33-year-old had offers from the Detroit Pistons and the Brooklyn Nets but chose to go to the Lakers to team up with stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Per Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype, this decision has been on his mind for some time. For Dudley, this is the first time since his days with the Phoenix Suns that he'll compete for a title.

“This is something I've been contemplating. I'd be getting a chance to compete for a championship, which is something I haven't had since the Steve Nash [Suns] days. I just think that being home and with that Laker brand, what's better than that?”

The Lakers will be Dudley's seventh team in his 12-year career. Given his ability to knock down shots from deep, he's expected to space the floor to allow James to operate.

In 59 games with the Nets last season, Dudley averaged 4.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists across 20.7 minutes. He shot 42.3 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from downtown. For his career, Dudley shoots at a 39.2 percent clip from deep.

The Lakers are slowly filling in their roster. While waiting for star forward Kawhi Leonard to make a decision, they have agreed to a one-year deal with Troy Daniels on Monday.

They also have second-round pick Talen Horton-Tucker and undrafted rookie guard Zach Norvell in a two-way contract.
