LeBron James' future is currently up in the air, as there is speculation he could retire from the NBA, re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, or even sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers for next season. With rumors running rampant, franchise governor Jeanie Buss weighed in on James' future.
Buss, who is 64 years old, claimed that the sale of the Lakers to Mark Walter allows the organization to focus on building around Luka Doncic instead of LeBron James,” according to Alex Sherman of CNBC. L.A. has found its new superstar, and the franchise is going all in on the soon-to-be 27-year-old guard.
“The partnership will give us the stability to continue to move forward as we build towards a team around Donci,” said Buss. “We couldn't be more proud that he is a Laker. He is a young all-star that the fans love to see.”
That leaves James to essentially make up his own mind on what he wants to do next season. Jeanie Buss claimed that a return to the Lakers is still a possibility. However, it sounds like Buss and the organization are going to allow the 41-year-old forward to make his own decision.
“Never say never, but you know, he certainly hasn't given an indication,” Buss said about James. “He's earned the right to decide how his career will go, and you know, he continues to impress.”
Although he has only played in 36 games so far this season, LeBron James is still playing at a high level. The four-time NBA champion remains one of the go-to options for the Lakers when he's on the court, averaging 22.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game while shooting 50.2% from the field and 30.5% from beyond the three-point line.
