The Los Angeles Lakers are agreeing to terms with a big man after an extensive search. Seven-footer Alex Len is signing a contract with Los Angeles, per ESPN Insider Shams Charania. Len was actually leaning toward signing with the Indiana Pacers, but the Mark Williams situation steered him to the Lakers.
The Lakers are waiving Christian Wood to sign Len, per the outlet. He's expected to play at the center spot with Jaxson Hayes.
Len helps fill a big void in L.A. The team traded Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic, and the Lakers needed some help up front. The Lakers were set to trade for Charlotte's Mark Williams, but the trade was rescinded.
The Lakers are now 32-19 on the season and have won six games in a row.
Lakers are making push to postseason with these new faces on the team
The Lakers are rolling at the moment and have to be one of the most intriguing stories in the NBA. Los Angeles is led by first-year coach JJ Redick, and now the squad has Doncic and LeBron James running the floor together.
Doncic played his first game with the Lakers on Monday night, when the team defeated the Utah Jazz. The newest Laker scored 14 points in 24 minutes. Los Angeles beat Utah soundly, 132-113.
Len previously played for the Sacramento Kings. He's played in 36 games for the Kings this year, averaging 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds. He was used sparingly this season, as he's only on the floor 7.2 minutes a game.
The new Los Angeles big man is a veteran who will also bring more leadership to the locker room. In his career, Len has averaged 6.7 points and 5.3 rebounds a game. He's clearly not the big name that Williams is, but the Lakers just need some rebounds and defense from the center position.
The Lakers and Jazz play again on Wednesday night. It's not certain if Len will be able to suit up for the team in that game.
