Leading up to the NBA draft next month, there is an ever-growing expectation that the Los Angeles Lakers will take UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball if he is still available at the second overall selection.

With that in mind, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka has told ESPN Los Angeles that the team intends to schedule a pre-draft workout with Ball in the coming days.

This had come to be an expected move with all the chatter that has surrounded both sides in the week that has followed the result of the NBA draft lottery, with the Lakers keeping their top-three protected first-round pick by moving up to the second overall spot for the third straight year.

Ball is arguably the most talented NBA prospect in this year's class following a stellar freshman campaign at UCLA where he led the nation with 7.6 assists per game while breaking the school's single-season record with 274 assists.

There have already been multiple reports that the Lakers are highly intrigued at the possibility of adding Ball through the draft to their young nucleus that is headed by D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, and Jordan Clarkson.

The workout could be a huge deciding factor in determining whether the Lakers will indeed take Ball if he is available at their selection. Another strong indication that the team could be leaning is if they bring him back for another workout following that.

Although there is still more than a month until the draft, Los Angeles is taking a big step toward figuring out the direction they will go at the second overall spot.
