The Los Angeles Lakers are going into this offseason with some decisions to make on their roster, but first, they have to worry about the players on their team. Luka Doncic is eligible for a contract extension, and the Lakers are ready to give him whatever he desires.

Doncic has said before that he wants to stay with the Lakers even after the surprising trade from the Dallas Mavericks, where he wanted to retire. Some think that LeBron James will have an influence on Doncic staying with the Lakers, but he says that's not his job.

“I think … I don't think, I know, Luka knows how I feel about him,” James said via ESPN's Dave McMenamin. “And ultimately, that trade happened for the future. That's not for me. Luka has to decide what he has to do with his future. He's [26] years old, I'm 40, so he can't be basing his career off me. That's just real.

“But I hope, obviously, [he stays long term]. Laker fans f—ing love him here. L.A. has accepted him. We love him as a teammate, as a brother. But ultimately, he's got to make a decision for him. S—, I ain't going to be around much longer.”

When the trade took place, it was evident that Doncic would be the future of the team, and everything they did from here on out would be centered around him. James understands that, and he knows that he only has a few seasons left in the league, and teams aren't going to be building around him.

This offseason will be the beginning of the Doncic era of the Lakers if he decides to sign an extension for the team. It's more likely than not that Doncic signs an extension, and Lakers fans should be excited for the future.
