Since the Los Angeles Lakers pulled the trigger on a deal that sent young guard D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets last week, it has put the expectations that another deal could be in the works.

Following the introduction of their second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft in former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball, Magic Johnson revealed that the Lakers are not near another major deal, according to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News.

“Are the Lakers close to another deal? No, not right now,” said Magic Johnson, the team’s president of basketball operations. “Of course we’ll look into improving the team in any way we can. But not right now.”

Los Angeles may not be near another trade, but that could come quite sooner than anticipated especially with the Cleveland Cavaliers attempting to work out a three-team trade with the Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers in order to land Paul George.

If the All-Star forward were to land with the Cavaliers, it could completely derail the Lakers' chances of landing him in free agency next summer when he hits the free-agent market.

This may lead the team to make a greater push for George by looking to package more young talent in deals such as Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle, who were both rumored to be offered for the 27-year-old prior to the draft last week.

Although things are quite on that end for the Lakers at this juncture, things could heat up as the offseason progresses along.
