As part of an official statement released on Thursday, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced that three-time NBA champion and Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade will serve on their Board of Trustees:

“We are very pleased to be adding Scott Rochelle and Dwyane Wade to our Board of Trustees,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “These men will bring unique perspectives and experiences to our board and will continue to make significant contributions to the basketball community. We know they will be an asset in the Hall of Fame’s mission to promote and preserve the game.”

Members voted into the Board of Trustees are to serve as ambassadors to the Hall of Fame and its fundamental missions. According to the Hall of Fame's website, the board is made up of individuals who work in or have worked in the game, as well as business leaders who have supported the game on the national or global level.

If anyone is deserving of a spot on the Hall of Fame's Board of Trustees, it's Dwyane Wade, who recently retired from the NBA. Flash was not only one of the greatest players the league has ever known, but he was also one of its most giving figures.

Wade, now 37 years of age, racked up several prestigious accolades over the course of his career in basketball, including one gold medal (2008), 13 NBA All-Star nods, two All-NBA First-Team selections and one scoring title (2009). He is also the Miami Heat's all-time leader in points, games played, assists and steals. And for the record: he's the NBA’s all-time leader for blocks by a guard.
