The Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly engaged the New Orleans Pelicans in efforts to acquire Anthony Davis before the Feb. 7 trade deadline. According to Gery Woelfel of The Racine Journal-Times, the Bucks have included every player not named Giannis Antetokounmpo in said conversations.
The Bucks and the Toronto Raptors are two late additions to the AD sweepstakes, joining the frontrunner Los Angeles Lakers and the hopeful New York Knicks as teams strongly vying for his talent.
ESPN's Zach Lowe was leery of a potential Bucks trade, given how the organization simply does not have the personnel that would interest the Pelicans in trade conversations. The Bucks also owe two of their future first-round picks as it is, giving them a limited number of prospects that they can offer in a swap for Davis.
Article Continues BelowThe pairing of Antetokounmpo and Davis would surely be a sight to behold, but it is hard to fathom, given that both players are long, athletic, and do most of the same things on the court.
Davis is more perimeter-oriented and a better 3-point and free-throw shooter than the “Greek Freak,” but putting those two big men together would set up the Bucks for ultimate dominance of the Eastern Conference if they find success together.
The Bucks have expressed willingness to re-sign point guard Eric Bledsoe and marksman Khris Middleton in the offseason, but this trade could put those hopes in peril if they pursue Davis at any cost ahead of the looming trade deadline.
