The NBA offseason has certainly lived up to the hype of being an entirely crazy time of the year for the league. It has even surpassed expectations because a theory usually heard inside barbershops has now become a reality that is currently causing people to lose their wits, and to some degree, their trust in the NBA.
DeMarcus Cousins’ commitment to the Golden State Warriors for a year is absolutely shocking. Not even LeBron James’ decision to pledge allegiance with the Los Angeles Lakers now pales in comparison to Boogie’s surprising move. That Cousins accepted a deal worth only $5.3 million via the Warriors’ mid-level exception is ludicrous on itself since a player at the peak of his career, let alone a superstar would normally do that.
By agreeing to such a cheap salary, Cousins is now going to be paid less money than what 194 players have made in the 2017-18 campaign.
This might sound a little painful for at least a few fans, but let’s rattle out some of the names of players who pocketed more than $5.3 million last year:
Article Continues Below- Shelvin Mack – $6 million
- Alex Abrines – $5.7 million,
- Boban Marjanovic – $7 million
- Milos Teodosic – $6 million
- Wesley Johnson – $5.8 million
- Kosta Koufos -$8.3 million
And of course, we’re not forgetting this guy:
- Chandler Parsons – $23.1 million
Granted that DeMarcus Cousins will come into the next season after dealing with a serious Achilles injury, his agent could still demand way over $10 million if the big man wanted to, but it appears that Cousins made the decision to spite the rest of the NBA for not giving him attention.
