After losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Boston Celtics face one of their most uncertain offseason in recent years. With many wondering what Kyrie Irving will be doing as he gets ready to hit free agency, according to some sources, the Celtics might not be so mad if he decides to leave.
Speaking to sources on the Celtics team, Jeff Goodman of Stadium discussed that certain Celtics players find Irving very difficult to deal with. “Everyone respects his talent,” one Celtics player reportedly said, “but he’s hard to play with. It’s all about him.”
Throughout most of the regular season, Irving was never shy about airing out his criticism regarding some of his teammates. From questioning the entire teams motivation to declaring himself a basketball genius, Irving has had a pretty rocky year with the media, and with free agency around the corner, it could get even worse.
Article Continues BelowDespite being one of the better players in the league, Irving was flat out terrible during this Celtics postseason run. In the four losses against the Bucks, Irving shot 25-of-83 (30%) from the field, and just 5-of-27 (19%) from 3 point range. During yesterday’s defeat, it looked as if Irving was simply shooting shots just to do it, and didn’t seem in rhythm at all.
With an offseason that will allow Irving to finally test the free agent waters upon him, many seem to think Irving will be headed away from Boston. At one point, that might have hurt some of the fans and members of the team, but after this season and a disappointing playoff exit, perhaps it won’t hurt as bad as many thought.
