Ahead of Derek Jeter‘s retirement ceremony, NBA Legend Michael Jordan paid tribute to the MLB future Hall of Famer by publishing a letter to him.
The letter titled “Legacy” appeared on The Players' Tribune site Saturday as seen below.
Derek,
A legacy is built by more than what is seen. It is not given, it is earned.
Beyond your 20 years in the Majors and an endless list of accolades, it was your love and respect for the game that set you apart.
Your pursuit of greatness on and off the field has set the standard for others to follow.
Much RE2PECT on cementing your legacy and having your No. 2 jersey retired.
Congratulations.
Your friend,
Michael

It's not every day that a player gets this kind of high regard from someone such as Jordan who refers to Jeter as his friend. He also served as a Jordan Brand athlete throughout his career which earned him his own shoe endorsement through the Jordan brand.
The New York Yankees legend will officially commence his retirement ceremony between Sunday's doubleheader games.
Ironically, The Players' Tribune was founded by Jeter to give a player's first person perspective in different aspects of sports. It's only fitting that homage is paid to his career on his site.
