In case you missed it, one-time NBA champ JR Smith beat up a man last week in Los Angeles after he allegedly caught the culprit vandalizing his car. As it turns out, however, it is unlikely that Smith will be facing criminal charges.
Via TMZ Sports:
Law enforcement sources tell us … the victim has not gone to police — no report has been filed — and, at this point, we're told it seems highly unlikely that will happen.
Our sources tell us without a victim coming forward, there's no way for prosecutors to even attempt to levy charges against the 34-year-old.

JR Smith may have just dodged a bullet here. He had every right to stop the man from vandalizing his private property, but there's no excuse for beating the man senseless. He could have caused bad physical damage, and Smith is lucky the unknown man has refused to come forward. Perhaps the vandal knew he was in the wrong and just did not feel that he had enough of a case to draw into Smith's deep pockets via an out-of-court settlement.
The random act of vandalism was part of the George Floyd protests in Los Angeles. Too bad for the vandal that he messed with Smith's car, and even worse that he got caught red-handed.
For his part, Smith did admit that he was also in the wrong and apologized for not being able to keep his cool. It looks like he's not going to be in any trouble and can go back to focusing on peacefully protesting like he was before this incident.
JR Smith is also still trying to find his way back into the NBA. The guard last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018-19 season. He got a workout with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this year, but Dion Waiters got the job instead.
