Former NBA shooting guard JR Smith was seen on video roughing up someone who allegedly smashed the windows of his car, per TMZ Sports.

Smith was protesting in downtown Los Angeles before returning to a more residential neighborhood where he had parked his truck.

Before the TMZ video surfaced, the 24-year-old ex-NBA guard posted an Instagram video wherein he confessed he caught a ā€œwhite boyā€ breaking the windows of his truck. Smith said he then ā€œchased him down and whooped his a**.ā€

Property damage, vandalism and looting have been widespread over the last week.

Protests have erupted throughout the country in the aftermath of George Floyd's death on Monday in Minneapolis. While many protests began with peaceful intent, some escalated as police or general anarchists used the protest to incite violence.

As JR Smith's story suggests, the chaos has been indiscriminate in terms of race or socioeconomic status. YouTube star Jake Paul has drawn tons of criticism after he was spotted at the site of a looting in Arizona.

For his part, the one-time NBA champion was not going to stand by while his truck was being pummeled.
