Free-agent center Larry Sanders is open to making a comeback to the NBA, telling TMZ Sports he could still contribute to an NBA team.
Sanders, the 15th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, made a. final appearance in the NBA was in the 2016-17 season, where he played with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, after appearing in just five games and averaging only 2.6 minutes, he was soon released.
Nevertheless, Sanders is mostly known for his playing time with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he developed into one of the top young defensive players in the league. Sanders's most dominant season came in 2012-13, as he averaged career-highs of 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game. Due to his dominant season, the Bucks signed him to a four-year, $44 million extension.
However, after missing a handful of games for personal reasons and dealing with a fourth suspension for marijuana usage, the Bucks bought out Sanders's contract in February 2015. Shortly after being cut, Sanders made a shocking announcement four days later that he's retiring from the NBA as he was dealing with depression.
Sanders is ineligible to sign with a team ahead of the NBA's tentative return in Orlando since he hasn't appeared in an NBA game during the last two seasons. Therefore his comeback will have to wait until the 2020-21 season.
