Steve Nash is a busy guy. Fresh off his Hall of Fame induction last week, Nash is introducing the HomeCourt app to the world at Apple's annual fall event. The app is designed to track shots and chart shooting in an individual workout using only an iPhone and the app:
The app Nash is showing off, @HomeCourtai, takes advantage of the A12
Bionic to offer real-time player and ball tracking for shooting basketballs — the app can analyze 6 different metrics in real time. #AppleEvent— Pete Pachal (@petepachal) September 12, 2018

This type of app would be most beneficial to younger players who might not have the necessary tools to track their workouts. According to Rohan Nadkarni of The Crossover, Nash, Mark Cuban, Sam Hinkie, and Jeremy Lin are initial investors. Lin told Nadkarni:

“After using it the first time, basically I was like, ‘Man, this is legit. This is something that anybody at any level can use. I’ve never really had objective, quick data like this.”
If it's as easy as it looks, this app should take off. While this certainly looks useful for high school players, Nash also saw the benefits for professionals as well. It streamlines the process of tracking shots and it's an easy way to get feedback on a workout. Nash told Nadkarni:
“If you love basketball and want to be the best you can be, you want every advantage possible. When I saw the demo, it made me go back to when I was a player at any level, when I was starting out or even a pro, I would love to have had a simple application to give me this feedback.
“There are times in your career where you can fool yourself into thinking everything is great, and you realize after a summer you’re not performing the way you should be. That’s how I relate it to my experience and how I would’ve used it.”
As technology continues to improve, the game of basketball will continue to evolve. The HomeCourt app is an interesting new wrinkle in the way players can improve their game.
