In the aftermath of a recently-approved reform of the NBA Draft Lottery system and player rest regulations, the league has informed all 30 teams of the salary cap projections for the next two seasons.
The cap is projected at $101 million for 2018-19 — a $2 million increase from this season's salary cap, which came up at $99 million, per RealGM and $108 million for the 2019-20 season, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.
Only eight of the 30 teams are projected to have room under the cap to sign players, according to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks.
Article Continues BelowThis is the indirect result of a summer of mayhem, which has seen plenty of player movement, from blockbuster trades to teams loading up with key acquisitions.
The league has reaped the benefits of a revenue boom following their new national television deals with ESPN/ABC, and TNT/NBATV.
The NBA has also added even more new revenue for this current season with the introduction of jersey sponsorship deals, which have totaled 16 of the total 30 teams.
While the numbers can be expected to change, just as this season's did from an estimated $102 million salary cap, next season will see the likes of LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and DeMarcus Cousins hit the free agent market, likely to see lucrative deals regardless of what team they choose to sign with.
