Despite not having the best talents the NBA has to offer, Team USA is still an incredibly deep talent. Anyone can explode on any given game for the Americans in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and on Saturday morning, it was Jayson Tatum’s turn to come out of the shadow and rip an opponent apart. In this case, the victim was the Czech Republic, who fell prey to Kevin Durant, Tatum, and company to the tune of a 119-84 score
Speaking of Durant, the former NBA MVP hit two birds with one stone, so to speak. Apart from being part of the winning team, Durant also broke Team USA’s Olympics scoring record that was previously held by Carmelo Anthony. Durant finished the contest with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. But it was Tatum who paced the team with his 27 points coming off the bench.
Durant was not interested much in hyping himself up more after the win and his record-breaking performance after the game. Instead, he made quite a leap into the future and anointed Tatum as the next record-holder in the Olympics for Team USA.

To break Durant’s record, Tatum will have to commit to Team USA in the next couple of Olympic cycles. That’s too far ahead, though. The goal right now for him and the rest of the squad is to successfully defend their gold medal win in the 2016 Rio games by topping the tournament in Japan.
