It was recently reported that the NBA and ESPN are currently working on a televised H-O-R-S-E competition, in which some of the league's brightest superstars are expected to participate in. While the details of this contest have yet to be finalized, it sure is going to be a treat for everyone stuck at home without the luxury of having to watch the NBA season unfold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The participants have also yet to be announced, but if they're saying that some “high-profile” players will be involved then surely we should expect some of the biggest names in the NBA, right? Some of the first names that come to mind are LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, James Harden of the Houston Rockets, and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. They probably might even throw in some young guns like Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks, and maybe even rookie sensation Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans. Wouldn't that be a sight to see? I, for one, am definitely marking that down in my calendar as soon as a date and time is announced.

We are also unsure as to what the particular rules of the competition will be, but we're certain sure that there will be some sort of provision that will level out the playing field. Maybe they're going to take away dunks just so guys like Curry and Young could join in. After all, Curry is the master of the trick shot, and him heaving some halfcourt treys would be quite a challenge to duplicate for any other participant.

Most of all, what this competition brings is a welcome distraction for the fans. We are living in some unprecedented times, and the news about the spread of the virus just seems to be getting worse every single day. We all need a reason to smile and take our minds off what has been a harrowing past few weeks, and a fun H-O-R-S-E competition featuring some of the best basketball players on the planet might just do the trick.

The NBA and ESPN will also likely throw in some prize money for the winner, which is probably going to be donated to the charity of the winner's choice. Fans might even be asked to donate in some form, so this should be a win-win scenario for everyone involved.
