The NBA is currently going through a very rough stretch in terms of the Covid-19 outbreak. On Sunday, they finally decided to postpone some games but that still isn't enough for what they have messed up with in the past two weeks.

Many stars have entered the league's health and safety protocols including guys like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Zach LaVine, and many other stars, role players, and guys who don't play more than five minutes a night. It doesn't matter if it is a guy like LeBron James, Steph Curry, or the last guy on the bench. The NBA has stated many times that their biggest concern with their players is keeping all of them safe and healthy.

The last thing that the NBA has done in the past two weeks is keep their players safe and healthy. There's clearly an outbreak and there clearly was an outbreak two weeks ago, but they failed to step in and take any action. This has caused more players to be in the health and safety protocols than the league has seen since the day that the virus became found in the USA.

The league should have decided to postpone these games two weeks ago once the outbreak started but unfortunately, they did not do that and the only reason why they didn't is because of money. They're not going to cancel any games due to the upcoming Christmas schedule and how much money they're going to make on that day. From a business standpoint, it makes sense, but with the league saying that their biggest concern is keeping their players safe and healthy, they are failing to live up to that motto.

The NBA could have done a few things differently and that is making sure that the games were postponed until everybody was cleared from Covid and then return to action from there. There isn't much that they can do in terms of not testing players and testing players who are vaccinated and unvaccinated as the virus can spread with unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals.

The problem doesn't lie in who they are testing, and who they are not testing as much as others. It lies in the hands of the people who make decisions about the health and safety protocols by not postponing any of these games. If the NBA decided two weeks ago to allow teams to have a two-week break, there would clearly not be any of these issues that we are currently seeing. There could be a few cases here and there just like we were seeing before this major outbreak but it wouldn't be anything to this degree that we are seeing at the moment.

It seems likely that a shutdown is going to come for the NBA but the fact that it has taken this long is a major concern. If the NBA does indeed decide to shut down, it would probably come after the Christmas games. The NBA has too much money to lose on that day and even if they don't see any of their major stars play on Christmas, they are still going to play those games.
