The New Orleans Pelicans are hoping to have a healthier Zion Williamson at the helm as they enter the 2020-2021 NBA season. The former Duke standout missed the majority of his rookie campaign after suffering a meniscus tear in one of their preseason games last year.

Pelicans general manager David Griffin is hoping to finally unleash the true potential of Williamson. As long as he's healthy, Zion looks to wreak havoc on the league next season.

“Once he gets to the point where he's healthy enough to play his game, play with the ball more, play more as a slasher and less as a post-up presence, I think you're going to see the real Zion come to the floor,” he said via Andrew Lopez of ESPN.

“I think it's hard to identify the things he needs to make the most improvement on other than his availability,” Griffin said. “We're going to need to keep him healthy and let him grow as a player,” he added.

Williamson returned from his injury three months later and ensuingly appeared in 24 games and averaged norms of 22.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game through 27.8 minutes of action.

The Pelicans later found themselves in the hunt for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference as they jockeyed for position against the Portland Trail Blazers and the Memphis Grizzlies.

They eventually struggled to gain any momentum in the NBA restart and ultimately lost out of contention with Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers earning the right to advance to the playoff proceedings.

A healthy Zion Williamson playing alongside a much-improved Brandon Ingram will definitely spell trouble for the rest of the league next season. The duo will only have to stay healthy and make things work in order to finally barge into the playoff picture for the first time in the post-Anthony Davis era.
