Article Continues BelowNew York is looking for a lead guard in the draft and free agency. Dinwiddie is rehabbing a torn ACL, so signing him comes with some risk. But he’s expressed confidence in his ability to bounce back from the injury because he suffered the same ailment in college.
At least one key decision maker for New York has embraced the idea of signing Dinwiddie, per SNY sources.
If Dinwiddie is able to get back to his old ways, he would be a clear upgrade from Elfrid Payton for the Knicks. In his last “full” season in 2019-20, the guard averaged 20.6 points per game to go along with 6.8 assists per contest for the Nets. While Brooklyn would like to execute a sign-and-trade for Dinwiddie, if the Knicks grab him, they will have plenty of cap space to do so without needing to go that route.
The Knicks will certainly add at least one point guard soon enough and who knows, it just might be Dinwiddie.
