RJ Barrett was born and raised in Toronto, and you can bet the New York Knicks rookie was excited about the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA Championship for the first time in franchise history.

“It was great man. I was excited,” Barrett told the media in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he and the Knicks are competing in the NBA's annual Summer League exhibition. “I watched every game. It was great for our country.”

Things are a little bit different now for Barrett, who had the privilege to root for the Raptors unbothered prior to his entry into the NBA. The 19-year-old grew up rooting for his hometown team, and he undoubtedly cheered for the Raps as they ended the Golden State Warriors' dynasty in six games.

After his selection in the NBA draft in late-June, however, Barrett's allegiance solely falls on the Knicks. Interestingly, Barrett and ther Knickerbockers will face the Raptors four times next season, thanks to being part of the same division.

Leonard signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency this offseason despite winning a title with the Raptors, but that doesn't phase Barrett anymore, saying that he doesn't care anymore because he's now in the NBA.

If he's learned one thing, it's that everything changes when you go pro. For Barrett, his eyes are on the prize in competing for New York.
