Free agency season is less than a month away, and the pressure is at an all-time high for the New York Knicks to bring in top-tier talents to the franchise. They have enough cap space to sign two players to max deals, and the consensus around the league is that their primary target is All-Star forward Kevin Durant.
Durant has been associated with the Knicks since the early parts of the season, but according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, he's hearing that KD hasn't made a decision on whether he'll go to New York or not.
Smith, who is a long-time fan of the Knicks, boldly stated that he'll advocate for owner James Dolan to sell the franchise if they fail to land Durant this summer.
Article Continues BelowThe Knicks have been one of the worst teams in the league for almost a decade, and they have not won a championship since 1973. A lot of fans have been frustrated about the state of the team, but they've been given hope this season when rumors of Durant's intention to join the franchise started to make rounds.
If Durant joins the Knicks, then it will instantly make them one of the favorites to win the championship. However, if they strike out on the reigning two-time Finals MVP, they will have one of the most disappointing offseasons in franchise history, because that would mean that free agents don't believe in the competence of their front office.
So the Knicks better make sure that they get someone this summer, to prove to their fans and the rest of the league that they are ready to win.
