Despite the tall task of making the New York Knicks a team worthy of being in the league's upper echelon, team president Phil Jackson has every intention of finishing his five-year term with the team.
While the team is at a pedestrian 14-11 mark through the first third of the season, they've also managed to win 11 of their last 16 games, slowly coming together after struggling through a basic version of the triangle offense implemented by head coach Jeff Hornacek under the guidance of Jackson.
Even after getting plenty of flack after his comments regarding LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, the 71-year-old basketball mastermind has a reason for every word that comes out of his mind, even more than meets the eye.
“Are you a needler?” — “Yes,” Jackson told Bleacher Report Senior Writer Kevin Ding with a smile in his face.
Besides his sharp-tongued comments and rare wit, Jackson has brought the building blocks of what he hopes can be the Knicks of the future with the selection of lanky unicorn Kristaps Porzingis and the offseason additions of Derrick Rose and Hornacek, who are expected to be part of a culture change.
Part of the joys of the ascent to the top is the process that comes with it. Now that Phil Jackson has put two-and-a-half years into this process, he plans to make the most of the reunion with the team he was once a part of, making a championship ring at the executive level all the more sweet.
