Third-year guard Emmanuel Mudiay has seen his role with the Denver Nuggets progressively diminish over the last couple of seasons.

Mudiay has been relegated to a reserve role coming off the bench in all 29 appearances this season while averaging 21.1 minutes per game. According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, the Nuggets have been aggressively looking to trade the 21-year-old.

Mudiay’s shooting and playmaking also have been concerning — which is why Johnson and Winslow were higher on Jackson’s board. Mudiay is a career 37.2 percent shooter, and sources say the Nuggets have attempted to trade him multiple times. He has lost his starting job to Jamal Murray.

“He failed as a starter,’’ the NBA scout said. “He never became a good decision-maker, and he’s not a good shooter.'

Much of this has centered on his development as a player hitting a rut as he has yet to show that he can be a dependable starter. He is currently shooting just 37.2 percent from the field while hitting 32.9 percent from beyond the arc while averaging just 4.5 assists for his brief NBA career.

The hope had been that he could develop into a dual-threat point guard behind his playmaking and improved shooting ability, but neither has come to fruition. Meanwhile, Jamal Murray has shown to be a reliable scorer in his second campaign that the team can use a building block to their long-term future.

With the NBA trade deadline less than two months away, Mudiay may be one of the many players on the move in the coming weeks. He is currently in the third year of his four-year, $14 million rookie deal that includes a $5.7 million qualifying offer for the 2019-20 campaign.
