Oklahoma City second-year point guard Cameron Payne has suffered an acute fracture in the fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the Thunder announced Thursday.
The injury occurred when Payne drove to the basket against Josh Huestis in the first half of the team's Blue and White Scrimmage on Tuesday at John Marshall High School.
On the play, Payne's foot hit the floor, causing the injury — which is unrelated to the Jones stress fracture he was recovering from, since this is an impact injury — same foot, different cause.

The 6-foot-3 guard out of Murray State was not experiencing pain in the area prior to the scrimmage and was a full-participant for the first two days of training camp.
A timetable for his return is currently unknown. It is undetermined if he will be able to travel with the team to Spain where the first two preseason games will take place.
The 21-year-old was late to cross halfcourt during an offensive possession in the second quarter, showing a mild limp in his effort to advance. Once play was stopped, Payne hopped on his left leg to keep him from putting weight on his injured right foot, and was kept out for the remainder of the scrimmage.

The injury comes at a bad time for the young point guard as he was slated to get the bulk of the backup action to Russell Westbrook. Payne had fully healed from a Jones fracture in his right foot this summer and this fracture will likely keep him out for a few weeks.
Ronnie Price figures to handle the backup point guard duties until Cameron Payne's return.
