The Oklahoma City Thunder are off to a rocky start to the season despite shiny new weapons in Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that by just looking at the numbers Anthony has been putting up so far.

The 33-year-old forward was instrumental in the Thunder’s annihilation of the Chicago Bulls Saturday night, pacing his team with 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field to go with five rebounds in 28 minutes of action in a 101-69 road win. The said performance was more than just about Anthony being the deadly scorer that he’s always been. As noted by Erik Horne of The Oklahoman, the 10-time All-Star became the first Thunder to kick off his career with Oklahoma City with six-straight 20-plus points performances.

It’s not exactly surprising that Anthony remains that deadly on offense as the fact that he’s done it with other capable scorers around him in Russell Westbrook and George. On the season, Anthony tops the team with 23.8 points per game on 46.9 percent shooting from the floor.

After going 1-2 in their first three games, the Thunder have now won two of their last three, which could be a sign that they’re starting to get familiar with each other. Nevertheless, little should be made of the Thunder beating a going-nowhere Bulls to a pulp.

Anthony could extend the franchise record he just set this coming Tuesday against a sturdier opponent in the form of the Milwaukee Bucks.
