In a drama-filled offseason, one of the storylines was Russell Westbrook not signing his five-year, $205 million contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. While there were some concerns about another superstar leaving Oklahoma City, Westbrook eventually signed on Kevin Durant's birthday.

After signing his extension, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett declared every day as ‘Russell Westbrook Day' according to Twitter:

After becoming the first player to average a triple-double for the 2016-17 NBA season since Oscar Robertson, Westbrook won his first Most Valuable Player award. While the six-time All-Star did everything in his power to lead the Thunder to the playoffs without Durant, he has help again following the Paul George and Carmelo Anthony trades.

With Westbrook committing to Oklahoma City, George reveals it will ‘absolutely' factor into his own free agency decision. As for Anthony, he is solely focused on the upcoming season after being traded by the New York Knicks just days before training camp.

Heading into the new season, it will take time for the Thunder to gel, but they are another super team looking to dethrone the defending champion Golden State Warriors. Their quest officially begins Oct. 19 against Anthony's former team at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
