The Oklahoma City Thunder got smoked by the John Wall-less Washington Wizards on Sunday night, taking an unexpected loss to a team that is bound to miss the playoffs after a poor start to the season. Forward Paul George called it a “weird game” and also suggested there was some letdown in play.

“We did well on the road, we had some big games that we won and just one of those nights you come home and you see an opponent like the Wizards … you just fall into that trap,” said George, according to ESPN's Royce Young.

Every team faces these types of obstacles in a long 82-game regular season, losing to teams they should be able to beat, yet taking a 116-98 loss was puzzling in itself, given the Wizards' depleted roster without their All-Star point guard Wall or Dwight Howard in the lineup.

More surprising than anything else was the Wizards outscoring the Thunder in every quarter, making more of a push in the second half while OKC had pulled into a fake sense of security, trailing by four points at the half.

“Eighty two games,” said Westbrook. “You think you’re gonna play good every night, you got another thing coming.”

Westbrook tallied yet another triple-double in the outing with 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists, while George put up 20 — still not enough to beat the Wizards.

The Thunder dropped to third place with the loss, a half-game behind the Golden State Warriors for second in a very tight race for the top spot in the conference.
