Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum rattled off his most efficient shooting night of the 2018-19 season when his squad knocked off the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, a team that is 12 games deep in the Western Conference cellar. McCollum, via ESPN, wasn't worried about where the Suns were situated in the standings, instead focusing on the players in front of him:

“I just go out there and hoop, man. I don't worry about who we're playing against. They have some very capable players, they've got guys who are capable of winning the game and beating you by themselves. So you've got to be ready to play.”

McCollum went 11-for-14 from the field versus Phoenix, notching 26 points in the final showdown he'll have against the squad until next season. There aren't many teams in the playoffs who allow 116 points per game like the Suns have this year.

Barring collapse, McCollum will head to the postseason for the sixth straight year next month. In each of his first five appearances, he has increased his scoring average, although last year's 25.3 points per game mark came during a first-round sweep. There is no easy opponent in the Western Conference slobberknocker come mid-April and May, but McCollum and Co. will certainly have to start worrying about who they're playing against sooner rather than later.

McCollum is seeing his game crescendo at the right time. He has averaged 23.8 PPG and is shooting 51.2 percent overall (including 50 percent from three-point range) through his first five March contests, gearing up for stout competition.
